The Classic Leather Satchel:

This is the Satchel that Bestleather.org called "Brilliant."

We don't cut corners on the leather. All our bags are made from 5-9oz. (2.2-3.5mm) thick, full grain vegetable-tanned bridle leather. You could bury this leather in your back yard and it might still outlast you—no kidding.

It's the same kind of leather used to make horse bridles and harnesses, places where cutting corners and using cheap leather could cost you your life.

We use only the best stuff. We are one of the only companies that use die-cast brass hardware and marine grade polyester for stitching (the same stuff used on sailboats).

The bag is made from 25 square feet of Grade-A, vegetable tanned leather. This leather takes 3 months to prepare using natural vegetable oils vs. the 2 day chemical process other companies use.

Our leather craftsman take almost 7 hours to make each bag.

The Vegetable Tanned Belt

This is a thick belt, built to last a lifetime.

How thick? Well, the average decent belt is made from 5-6oz. leather which is roughly 3/32 inch or 2mm. This sort of belt will run you about $40 and last 5-10 years. A better belt is made from 7-8oz. leather which is about 1/9 or 2.75mm. An 8oz. belt will last a decade or two.

HYDE belts are 10oz. leather which is roughly 1/6 inch or 4mm. Chances are you have never seen a belt this thick. I suspect it is because there is not much profit in making products that never need to be replaced, but that's what we are trying to do—make a belt to last you your lifetime.
